Today news of a new Raspberry Pi model has been confirmed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It was revealed last night by various social media channels, blogs, and RS Components sites. These included Hackaday.com and the German RS Components site. According the Hackaday someone was sent a “Model B+” by Element14 before the official launch date and this resulted in leaked photos.
The new device is called the “Raspberry Pi Model B+” and includes a number of different updates. The CPU/GPU and 512B RAM remains unchanged.
Here is what the new Model B+ looks like :
The most obvious changes from the original Model B are :
- 40 pin GPIO header
- 4 USB ports
- Removed composite video port
- Power socket moved to same side as HDMI port
- Redesigned power regulator
- Lower power consumption (600mA not 750mA)
- 4 mounting holes
- MicroSD card slot
- It isn’t called “Model C”
Specifications
- Broadcom BCM2835 700MHz processor

- HD 1080p video output
- Composite video output (PAL / NTSC)
- Stereo audio output
- Ethernet port 10/100 BaseT RJ45
- Video / audio HDMI 1.3 and 1.4
- 4-pin Audio/Composite -Video Out jack, 3.5 mm
- 4 USB 2.0 ports
- 15-pin MPI CSI-2 connector for Raspberry Pi HD Video Camera
- 15-pin serial display interface connector
- MicroSD card slot
- Power supply: +5 V @ 2 A via microUSB jack

40-pin GPIO Header Connection
The Model B+ comes with a 40-pin GPIO header. Here is a diagram showing the pin-out. The first 26 pins are the same as the header on the standard Model A/B :

The PCB is marked as “Made in UK” so presumably it is being made at the Sony factory in Wales.
If you weren’t following one of our social media channels you would have missed this news as it broke hours before the official launch!

On the dimensions, you probably wanted to mark mm as in millimeter, not CM.
Thanks, I’ve updated the dimensions.
More/better power.. good
More USB.. good as long as there’s enough power. USB2 ?
I wondered why the official SD card has always been a mico with adaptor, now we know.
Note the composite is still there, just merged into the audio jack, not that I care.
I wonder if the GPIO pinout has been made so you can still fit existing add-on boards. and what do we get with the extra pins.
